The livery of the gondoliers for wedding and funeral services often leaves much to be desired, perhaps because times have changed, or perhaps because who chooses them has little experience with these uniforms, or has, in the best of hypotheses, seen them very occasionally.

Who can permit themselves to have a wedding without taking into too much consideration the expenses, is advised, once the gondoliers have been selected, to take them to a tailor and have them fitted with their livery, especially if you have chosen a first class gondola; this is recommended so as to avoid and aesthetical disparity between the boat and who rows it.

This is less important in the case of a funeral, as usually the event occurs unexpectedly that there is often not enough time to take care of such fine details.
