On the nastri (brass strips) or on the small, unnoticed decorations of the gondola, you can often find small pearls of popular wisdom, more often than not, instead of inscribing the names of loved ones or wives, the gondolier decides to inscribe a saying or a proverb, sometimes quite colourful in its meaning.
