Many people tend to identify as one and the same the entity the Gondoliers and the ex-Ente.

This is not exactly the case as the ex-Ente was a body that was formed in 1972 at the request of the Local Council as the Institute for the Conservation of the Gondola and the Gondoliers. Within this structure, the gondoliers are not taken into consideration; in fact, the decisions regarding them are taken by the people in charge of the Ente (usually nominated by the Council) and who usually reflect the political climate of the reigning city government.

In the simple eyes of the citizen, I think that the title Conservation of the Gondolier is quite inaccurate, seeing that the in the true sense of the word, the Ente only excercises only a form of control over the gondoliers.
